Oceania Business Council Holds 2026 Annual General Meeting in Melbourne

On 1 May 2026, the Oceania Business Council (OBC) successfully held its 2026 Annual General Meeting at World Trade Centre Melbourne. Under the theme “Building on the Past, Embracing New Momentum,” the event brought together government representatives, business leaders, industry professionals, and community members from both Australia and China.

The meeting marked an important milestone in OBC’s continued development as an international platform for business collaboration, industry exchange, and global partnership building.

Distinguished guests attending the event included Cr Gladys Liu, Simon Qian OAM, Arthur Wu, Bill Long, Nick Yan, Jerry Zhu, Hon. Ken Smith AM, and Hon. Bruce Atkinson AM, alongside over one hundred representatives from various sectors.

Leadership Address and Organisational Development

The meeting opened with remarks from Hon. Bruce Atkinson AM, Honorary Chairman of OBC, who recognised the organisation’s efforts in strengthening cross-cultural dialogue and international cooperation.

Hon. Ken Smith AM, Founding President and Honorary Chairman of OBC, reflected on the organisation’s journey and long-term vision. During the event, certificate presentations were held in recognition of leadership contributions and organisational development.

Sunny Sun, Executive President of OBC, delivered the annual report titled Strategic Transformation and Global Connectivity. The report reviewed OBC’s achievements in organisational growth, international cooperation, and project development, including the launch of the Australian International Entrepreneurship & Innovation Alliance in partnership with seven organisations.

Establishment of Six Professional Committees

A major highlight of the meeting was the official launch of six new professional committees, strengthening OBC’s industry-focused service capabilities:

• Real Estate Committee — Secretary-General: Diana Chen

• High-Level Talent & Doctoral Innovation Committee — Secretary-General: Arina Tang

Additional committee certificates were presented to council members and executive representatives during the ceremony.

Annual Achievements and International Cooperation

During the meeting, Secretary-General Sheryl Leigh introduced OBC’s 2026 strategic development plan, emphasising the organisation’s transition from networking-based operations toward long-term international collaboration and practical project implementation.

OBC highlighted its expanding partnerships across multiple regions in China, including Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shanghai, Yunnan, Guangdong, and Inner Mongolia, with cooperation covering trade, investment, healthcare, education, and industrial development.

The meeting also reviewed several key achievements, including:

• Participation in major pharmaceutical and healthcare expos in China

• Establishment of the “Oceania Pavilion” for Australian health products

• Successful hosting of the Australia-China Health Industry Expo and World Traditional Medicine Forum in Melbourne

• Continued development of the Oceania Industrial Park project in Suzhou Wuzhong District
  

OBC also reaffirmed its commitment to providing integrated services for member enterprises, including market access, TGA certification support, logistics, warehousing, and local business promotion.

Looking Ahead

Looking toward the future, OBC stated that it will continue expanding its international cooperation network, accelerating key industry projects, and strengthening targeted support services through its professional committees.

The organisation aims to further position itself as a practical and globally connected platform with strong resources, project capabilities, and international partnerships.

The 2026 Annual General Meeting concluded with a business networking reception at World Trade Centre Melbourne, providing members and guests with opportunities for further communication and cooperation.
